You may have been told that to become an art therapist you have to study art, counselling, psychology, nursing, social science or a related field at university, followed by a postgraduate qualification in art therapy and around 750 hours of supervised field experience on a clinical placement.

This type of training is only required if you wish to work in an institution or government departments like a hospital, mental institution or psychologist clinic. The reason this type of Art Therapy takes so long is that it requires you to learn how to analyse your client's art and to be able to provide them with advice. It puts a lot of responsibility for ‘fixing’ the client on the therapists. There are also a lot of rules and regulations to learn in order to work within the confines of a department.

Holistic Integrative Creative Art Therapists do not analyse or advise their clients. We provide creative, expressive, self-empowering tools and therapies, which places the responsibility for healing in the hands of the only person who really knows what the client needs…the client!

We believe it is impossible for one person to analyse another’s artwork, no matter how many years of university we have gone through because we all see life through the veil of our own belief systems and personal experiences.

We also believe that when people are provided with grounded, evidence-based information about how their bodies, emotions and minds work, in a safe and supportive environment, the potential for healing and personal growth is enormous. Knowledge is power and we, as therapists and teachers, must place that power in our client's hands.

All of our training materials are evidenced based and industry accredited with the International Institute of Complementary Therapists. You will learn about positive psychology and explore the link between emotional, physical and psychological wellbeing.

You will emerge from this training course with the wisdom and confidence required to practice as a Holistic Integrated Creative Art Therapists. We will guide you toward starting your own private practice in this important and exciting field. You will have ongoing support through our graduate's social media group to keep you informed, connected and inspired.

You will be able to join the IICT, get public liability and professional indemnity insurance, create a personally and professionally rewarding career and best of all, help hundreds of people live happier, healthier, more creative lives.
